What's the European Health Insurance Card?

A free card that gives you access to medically necessary, state-handed healthcare during a temporary stay in any of the 27 EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland under the same conditions and at the same cost( free in some countries) as people ensured in that country. The benefits covered include, for illustration, benefits handed in confluence with habitual or being ails as well as in confluence with gestation and parturition.

Cards are issued by your public health insurance provider.

Important – the European Health Insurance Card:

1. is not volition to travel insurance. It doesn't cover any private healthcare or costs similar to a return flight to your home country or lost/ stolen property,
2. does not cover your costs if you're traveling for the express purpose of carrying medical treatment,
3. and does not guarantee free services. As each country’s healthcare system is different services that bring nothing at home might not be free in another country.
4. Please note when you move your habitual hearthstone to another country, you should register with the S1 form rather than using the EHIC to admit medical care in your new country of habitual hearthstone.
   

If you're living in Ireland

Still, Irish pensioner, or an EU citizen living in Ireland you can apply for an EHIC :

1. If you're an Irish citizen.
2. in person at your original health office.
3. by post.
4. online- if you have a medical card or medicine payment scheme card and you live in Ireland.

You must be living in Ireland and have an address then. You will need to show substantiation of this.

The card takes about 10 working days and will be posted to you.

Apply in person

You can apply for an EHIC in person at your original health office, except in Dublin North West, Dublin South, Kildare, and West Wicklow.

The Dublin North West office only accepts operations by post. You can apply online to the other services or by post.

For critical cards or queries please communicate with your original center by phone.

To apply, you’ll need to give your:

1. name
2. address
3. date of birth
4. Particular Public Service( PPS) number

You'll need to bring your passport or driving license.

You may need to show substantiation of your PPS Number. You may need to show validation of your PPS Number. This could be on a P60 or social services card.

You might also need to show evidence that you live in Ireland, for illustration, a rent agreement or employment contract.

Apply by post

To apply by post you need to :

• have an address in Ireland.
• download and publish an EHIC English operation form or an EHIC form narrated as Gaeilge.
• complete it and post it to your original health office.

You’ll need to give your

• name
• address
• date of birth
• Particular Public Service( PPS) number

You may need to show substantiation of your PPS Number. This could be on a P60 or social services card. Shoot photocopies of these, not the originals.

You might also need to show evidence that you’re an Irish occupant, like a rent agreement or employment contract. Shoot photocopies of these, not the originals.
